Good Samaritan Honored for Saving Driver from Fiery Crash Near Baltic

(Baltic, SD) — A South Dakota man is being honored for his heroic actions after pulling an unconscious driver from a burning car near Baltic. Derek Murphy of White received a Life Saving Award from the Highway Patrol Thursday, recognizing his quick response during the April 13th crash on I-29. Jackson Murphy had lost consciousness after hitting a guardrail, and his vehicle caught fire. Derek and another man, who chose to remain anonymous, rushed to help and pulled Jackson to safety just as the car went up in flames. Jackson, now recovered, says he’s grateful to be alive and finally got to meet and thank the man who saved his life.
