(Grand Forks, ND) — The Grand Forks County Commission is grappling with a smaller budget proposal for next year. The commission requested county departments reduce their spending by one to three percent to help the county pay employee salaries and comply with new property tax laws. A new three-percent cap on property tax levies was established in May, with some commissioners already arguing that the county won’t be able to comply due to budget shortfalls. The Grand Forks County Commission will meet today to consider budget proposals as a final budget is required by October 10th.
