(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota wildlife officials cannot find sage grouse in recent surveys. The state Game and Fish Department says officials conducted the surveys this past spring but were unable to find greater sage grouse. The population numbers for the chicken-sized birds have fallen drastically since the beginning of the century, with hunting them outlawed in 2008. Officials believe that a loss of sagebrush statewide and industrial activity are to blame.
