Ukrainian Family in Watertown Faces Deportation as Deadline Looms

(Watertown, SD) — A Ukrainian family living in Watertown is now facing a heartbreaking deadline, having less than a month to leave the U.S. Ilona and Valerii Biliaze fled war-torn Ukraine with their three kids and have called South Dakota home for the past two years under the United for Ukraine program. They’ve built a life here, working, raising their kids, and even welcoming a new baby. But with their humanitarian parole expiring on August 17th and asylum attempts denied, they have nowhere to go back to as Russia now controls their former home. The family says they love their life in Watertown and are asking for help and advice on what to do next.
