(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota is teaming up with federal immigration officials to crack down on violent criminals and drug dealers. Attorney General Marty Jackley announced Monday that ICE has agreed to partner with the state’s Division of Criminal Investigation under a federal program known as 287(g). A new task force based in Pierre will allow specially trained DCI agents to enforce certain federal immigration laws. Jackley says the move will strengthen public safety. Training will start soon for agents across both Eastern and Western South Dakota.
