Big Ten Commish Petitti Advocates For AQ-Heavy CFP

(Las Vegas, NV) — Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti laid out his ideal 16-team College Football Playoff Format. On the first day of Big Ten Media Days, Petitti said that his conference and the SEC should each have four automatic qualifiers, while the ACC and Big 12 would have two each. The final four slots would go to the highest-ranked Group of Six team and three at-large teams. He added that a format with only one automatic bid for the Big Ten “would have a hard time” getting the league’s support. An expansion to a 16-team playoff from the current 12-team model could begin as soon as the 2026 season.
