Rapid City Council Approves Financing for New Libertyland USA Theme Park

(Rapid City, SD) — Rapid City takes a big step toward a new family attraction by approving a special financing district for Libertyland USA — a planned theme park and resort. The city council voted overwhelmingly to create a Tax Increment Financing district to help fund the 125-million-dollar project over 20 years. Libertyland USA will include a theme park, western-style resort, RV campground, and more, all aimed at encouraging visitors to stay longer in Rapid City. Supporters say it will boost local sales tax and bring year-round entertainment, while some council members worry about the size of the city’s financial commitment. The project is still in early stages, but excitement is building around what could become a major new draw for the area.
