(Undated) — Beef prices continue to climb, and that’s giving South Dakota ranchers a much-needed boost. Ground beef is up nearly 12 percent over last year, and steaks are averaging over eleven dollars a pound. Eric Jennings with the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association says ranchers are finally catching a break after years of drought and low prices. Many are using the extra income to replace equipment and rebuild savings. He says the market should stay strong for a few years, but warns if prices go too high, it could push consumers away.
