(Bismarck, ND) — The North Dakota Secretary of State believes a former district map should be used for areas near Devils Lake and Belcourt. Michael Howe filed a brief on Tuesday, arguing that the redistricting of the cities in the 2024 map should not be implemented. The recent version created a subdistrict around Turtle Mountain, which Indian Tribes say hurts voting power and limits representatives. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the 2024 version will remain in effect until further notice earlier this month.
