SD DCI Agents To Enforce Immigration Law Under New ICE Partnership

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota’s top law enforcement agency now has two agents training to enforce federal immigration law. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the new partnership with ICE will let DCI agents start deportation proceedings in violent crime and drug cases without waiting for federal agents. But a South Dakota non-profit is raising red flags. Taneeza Islam with Voices for Peace says the program’s task force model has a history of racial profiling and lacks clear limits. Jackley insists the focus is on dangerous offenders, not everyone here illegally.
