(Stanley, ND) — A Stanley man will spend over a decade in prison after the death of his friend. Yesterday, Malcolm Mayors was sentenced after agreeing to an Alford plea for the shooting death of 39-year-old James Arsenault. Mayors admitted to consuming psychedelic mushrooms before the incident, claiming the two were playing virtual reality video games when he couldn’t tell what was real. Mayors’ Alford plea means he maintained his innocence while admitting there’s enough evidence to be convicted. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but will only serve 15 years.
