(Eden Prairie, MN) — UnitedHealth Group says it has begun complying with formal criminal and civil requests. It comes as the health care giant confirmed in a securities filing on Thursday that the company is facing both criminal and civil investigations from the Department of Justice related to its Medicare billing practices. UnitedHealth said it “proactively” reached out to the DOJ after reviewing reports, marking the first time the company has acknowledged the existence of any investigations. According to UnitedHealth, it has also launched an initiative to conduct third party reviews.
