Sandy Hook Survivor Calls For Better Gun Safety In South Dakota Schools

(Pierre, SD) — As the new school year approaches, calls are growing louder in South Dakota to improve gun safety measures. Abbey Clements, a Sandy Hook survivor and founder of Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence, is urging the state to pass stricter gun storage laws and provide better gun safety education for students. Despite South Dakota expanding gun access with new laws allowing concealed carry on public property and campuses, it currently has no requirements for safe gun storage. Clements says most school shootings involve guns from a family home, so she’s encouraging teachers to share secure storage info during back-to-school events to help prevent tragedies.
