SD Commission Clears Deputies With Legal Troubles for Certification

(Pierre, SD) — Two South Dakotans with past legal troubles get the green light to serve in law enforcement. The state’s Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission approved Patrick Iyotte and Ashley Yellow Bull after separate hearings Wednesday. Iyotte, a deputy in Todd County, admitted to a 2019 crash involving alcohol, THC, and cocaine. Yellow Bull, now with the Oglala Sioux Tribe, had past charges that were dropped but failed to disclose them, as well as a firearms test failure, on her application. Both received strong support from local law enforcement and were cleared to serve.
