(Sturgis, SD) — The crowd at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is up this year. The South Dakota Department of Transportation reported the vehicle count hit about 179-thousand on Sunday, the third day of the rally. That’s eight percent above the five-year average.
Meantime, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety is updating its “Sturgis Rally Tally.” It’s a way to track crashes and crimes during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. From August 2nd to August 4th, there was one deadly accident and 20 injury crashes. Thirty-eight DUI arrests were made in the Sturgis and Rapid City districts, and roughly 478 citations were issued.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally runs through Sunday, August 10th.
