(Haakon County, SD) — A violent chase and hostage situation turns deadly in Haakon County. Authorities say it all started Tuesday night near the Green Grass community on the Cheyenne River Reservation when a suspect identified as Schace Looking Horse stole a car and took a hostage at gunpoint. The chase crossed county lines and ended nearly an hour south in Haakon County. Attorney General Marty Jackley says Looking Horse fired multiple times at law enforcement with a high-powered rifle, hitting several patrol vehicles. Officers eventually disabled the vehicle twice, rescuing the hostage with only minor injuries. Looking Horse was shot and killed at the scene. No officers were hurt. DCI is now reviewing the shooting — the sixth officer-involved one in the state this year.
