MN Lawmaker Shootings Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

(Minneapolis, MN) — The man accused of killing a Minnesota state lawmaker and injuring another is entering a plea of not guilty. Vance Boelter pleaded not guilty to federal charges including murder for allegedly assassinating former Minnesota Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in June as well as shooting state Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who survived their injuries. Boelter was taken into custody after a two-day manhunt involving nearly 200 law enforcement officers, and a trial date has not yet been set. The charges could carry the death penalty, though prosecutors said a decision on the death penalty is months away.
