North Dakota Man Who Drowned While Boating ID’d

(Cass Lake, MN) — A Grafton, ND man who drowned while boating on Cass Lake has been identified.

41-year-old Jon Koehmstedt, drowned Saturday August 9th, while trying to fix a motor problem. His body was found about two hours later, and he was not wearing a life jacket.

Koehmstedt was Grafton High School’s athletic director, activities director and assistant principal. In a statement on the Grafton High School website, superintendent Darren Albrecht said in part that “Jon was a devoted father and dedicated member of our Spoiler Community. His quick wit, big heart, love for his children, and commitment to students and staff was evident to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.”

The incident remains under investigation.

Grafton High School says to please reach out to your student’s principal if you believe your child may need additional support in the coming days in grieving the loss of Koehmstedt.
