(Sturgis, SD) — Traffic into Sturgis for this year’s motorcycle rally surges with the South Dakota Department of Transportation reporting more than an 11-percent increase over the five-year average. From August 1st through the 10th, more than 537-thousand vehicles rolled into town — up from the usual 483-thousand. The biggest spike came on Monday, August 4th, with traffic jumping 19-percent over average. While these numbers don’t reflect exact attendance, the DOT says they’re pulling together a full traffic report which is expected next week.
