(Sioux Falls, SD) — The Sioux Falls City Council moves forward with a controversial anti-encampment ordinance, but not without major changes. After a second reading Tuesday night, the council unanimously approved amendments that add new protections for people experiencing homelessness. The revised proposal would require the city to first connect individuals with support services, wait at least 24 hours before removing a tent or encampment, and store any personal items collected. A final vote is set for August 19th, and if approved, the ordinance would ban tents and encampments in public places.
