Ag Leaders Discuss Trade and Farm Bill at South Dakota Summit

(Sioux Falls, SD) — South Dakota’s ag leaders and lawmakers talked trade, processing, and the future of the farm bill at this week’s Midwest Agricultural Export Summit. Representative Dusty Johnson and Nebraska Representative Adrian Smith say Trump’s massive reconciliation bill cleared the way for a smaller, easier-to-pass farm bill. But Johnson admits a few key programs still need reauthorizing.

One South Dakota rancher, Stacy Hadrick, says she’s hoping for more in-state meat processing so locally raised beef can stay local. Meanwhile, Smith says new tax credits could boost investment in supply chains and value-added exports. A new farm bill could land as early as September but more likely by year’s end.
