DSS Warns SNAP Recipients After Card Skimmers Found

news

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Skimming scams are hitting SNAP recipients in Sioux Falls, and state officials are urging people to act fast.

The Department of Social Services says card skimmers were found at a Walmart on East Arrowhead Parkway and multiple Dollar General stores, resulting in stolen benefits from over 350 people. Police say they’re investigating around 30 reported cases so far. Skimmers can be hard to spot, but often involve fake devices placed over card readers. Officials urge SNAP users to change their PINs immediately, freeze cards when not in use, block out-of-state transactions, and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
