ND Officials Warn About Anthrax In Livestock After Confirmed Case

(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota officials are warning farmers about anthrax infections in livestock after a case was confirmed in Stark County. The case was recently confirmed in a beef cattle herd in Stark County. This is the first of its kind in the county and the first positive case of 2025. Anthrax typically lies dormant in soil for decades and is activated during flooding, heavy rain, or even droughts. Livestock is exposed to the infection through grazing or drinking contaminated water. North Dakota farmers are advised to take precautions by actively monitoring their herds in case of unexplained deaths.
