(Sioux Falls, SD) — Protesters line a busy Sioux Falls street Thursday, calling out federal spending and defending senior benefits. More than 50 people gathered outside Representative Dusty Johnson’s downtown office, many upset over possible Medicare and Social Security cuts. Organizers say the timing matters as yesterday was National Senior Citizens Day. Protesters claimed Johnson’s support of a recent federal tax and spending bill could put seniors at risk, pointing to a projected three-point-four-trillion-dollar deficit. Johnson responded, saying the bill doesn’t cut Medicare for South Dakotans and actually keeps more money in seniors’ pockets.
