South Dakota Seeks New Markets in Ireland and UK for Beef, Ethanol

(Undated) — Governor Rhoden is leading a trade mission to Ireland and the UK, aiming to boost exports for the state’s beef and ethanol industries. Recent trade agreements between the U.S., EU, and UK are opening new opportunities for South Dakota ranchers and producers. Dan Piroutek, a marketing agent at Belle Fourche Livestock Market, says beef prices have hit record highs, helping ranchers despite fewer cattle available. Local rancher Wesley Wood agrees the price increases are necessary but hopes rising costs don’t push consumers away from beef. Jesse Fonkert, president of South Dakota Trade, says the trade mission is all about building relationships and opening doors for businesses overseas.
