(Pierre, SD) — Federal budget cuts are hitting hard in South Dakota, forcing major nonprofits to make tough choices. South Dakota Public Broadcasting, Feeding South Dakota, and the Humanities Council have all lost major federal support — two even losing 100-percent of their funding. That’s leading to staff cuts, fewer programs, and impacts on rural communities. SDPB plans to cut a quarter of its staff, Feeding South Dakota is trimming over a million meals from future budgets, and the Humanities Council has already canceled grants and reduced staff. All three continue to call on donors, volunteers, and the state to help fill the gap, as they hope federal support returns.
