New GPS Tech Helps South Dakota Troopers Track Fleeing Vehicles

(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol is rolling out new technology aimed at making high-speed chases safer. It’s called StarChase. The system shoots a small GPS tracker onto a fleeing vehicle, letting troopers follow it in real time without needing to stay in a dangerous pursuit. Highway Patrol says this allows them to back off and make arrests later, under safer conditions. StarChase is already installed in several patrol cars across the state.
