(Washington, DC) — South Dakota’s U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson is weighing in on the federal government’s anti-crime push in Washington, DC. Johnson tells KELOLAND News the city’s leaders haven’t done enough to control crime and says it makes sense for the federal government to step in, especially with DC being the seat of national power. While violent crime there peaked in 2023 and has since dropped, Johnson says the focus should be on safety, not politics. As for talk of expanding similar crackdowns to cities like Chicago or L.A., he says that’s a conversation the country needs to have carefully.
