(Sisseton, SD) — Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate leaders are breaking ground on a new 28-thousand-square-foot law enforcement center on the Lake Traverse Reservation. The facility will sit next to a new detention center and feature high-tech equipment, secure spaces, and a design focused on collaboration between tribal, state, and federal agencies. Chairman J. Gerrett Renville says the project fills a long-standing need after nearly a decade without a police or detention center, and it shows the tribe’s deep commitment to protecting their homeland.
