Standoff Near Aberdeen Schools Ends Peacefully

(Aberdeen, SD) — Aberdeen police respond to a tense situation near two schools after reports of a person firing a weapon Wednesday. Just after noon, officers rushed to the area of 3rd and North Kline, near Roncalli Elementary, and later to Lincoln School, which went into lockdown. Authorities say a man was firing what appeared to be a suppressed rifle — later determined to be an airsoft gun — prompting a heavy police response and street closures. The Special Response Team was called in when the suspects refused to come out. After a two-hour standoff, the situation ended peacefully. That person has been cited for firing an air gun inside city limits.
