SCOTUS Requested To Review ND’s Redistricting Dispute

(Bismarck, ND) — The U.S. Supreme Court is being formally asked to review a challenge regarding North Dakota’s legislative district map. The request follows a 2022 lawsuit by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Spirit Lake Tribe, and three Indigenous voters. The plaintiffs argue that a 2021 redistricting process diluted the voting strength of Native Americans, as state officials continue to reject the allegations. A federal judge initially ruled in favor of the lawsuit in 2023, but the decision was overturned by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The formal request for a SCOTUS review was filed on Tuesday.
