Tea Man Seeks Dismissal of Murder Charge Under ‘Stand Your Ground’ Law

(Canton, SD) — A Lincoln County judge is considering whether to throw out a murder case under South Dakota’s “stand your ground” law. Sixty-one-year-old Timothy Overton of Tea claims he shot contractor Isaiah Morales in self-defense during a June confrontation at his home. Prosecutors say Overton assaulted Morales with brass knuckles before firing the fatal shot, while the defense argues evidence shows he was attacked first. Testimony continues Thursday in Canton.
