(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota wildlife officials are predicting a big pheasant season this year. Wildlife Division Director Tom Kirschenmann says hunters could harvest as many as one-point-five million birds, topping last year’s one-point-three million. Upland game biologists report strong habitat and weather conditions, with farmers seeing large broods across the state. The grouse season opens September 20th, followed by youth and resident-only pheasant hunts, before the full season opener on October 18th. Officials say it could be the best season in more than a decade.
