(Avon, SD) — Avon middle school English teacher Becky Haenfler is named South Dakota’s 2026 Teacher of the Year. Known for getting students excited about reading, Haenfler teaches fifth through seventh grade in the same classroom she once attended. The USD grad is awarded a five-thousand-dollar grant and two-thousand-dollar honorarium. Haenfler will represent South Dakota in the 2026 National Teacher of the Year award next spring in Washington, DC.
