Gov. Rhoden Launching Task Force to Expand Prison Rehabilitation Program

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Rhoden is creating a task force to expand rehabilitation programs in South Dakota’s state prisons as lawmakers prepare to vote on a new men’s facility in northeastern Sioux Falls. The task force, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen, will explore faith-based and Native American-focused programs, re-entry models, and best ways to use the facility’s expanded space. The new prison will also include larger areas for religious practice, vocational training, and education through Southeast Technical College, aiming to give inmates more opportunities for treatment and successful reintegration into society.
