(Minot, ND) — The City of Minot will not renew its membership in the North Dakota League of Cities. Officials recently voted four-to-three against the renewal during a marathon city council meeting discussing the 2026 fiscal year budget. Councilman Scott Samuelson says the city council took issue with a bill passed during the 2025 legislative session that reportedly took away local control of property tax cap increases. He argued that while Minot sent a letter opposing the bill, the state’s League of Cities did not. This led to the city deciding to leave the group, which in turn will also save Minot 25-thousand-dollars to allocate towards other needs next year.
