Special Session to Vote on New Men’s Prison

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers return for a special session today. They’ll vote on the new, 650-million-dollar state prison. Governor Rhoden recently released draft legislation that lines up with recommendations from his Prison Reset Task Force. It calls for building the new men’s prison at the Benson Road site in Sioux Falls and finalizes a land swap from the old Lincoln County site. It also states the prison won’t be used for federal immigration detention.
