Aberdeen City Council Approves Two-Way Street Downtown, Mayor Breaks Tie

(Aberdeen, SD) — Aberdeen’s City Council is narrowly voting to convert downtown from a one-way street to a two-way road, with Mayor Travis Schaunaman breaking the five to four decision. The change has sparked strong reactions from business owners and residents. Don’s Builders Hardware and Domino’s Pizza, longtime downtown staples, say the shift could hurt their businesses, while supporters argue it will bring more traffic and opportunities for new businesses. Now, opponents are working on a petition to put the decision to a community vote, needing roughly 900 signatures to trigger a referendum.
