(Bismarck, ND) — Federal officials have confirmed over 500-thousand cases of bird flu across North Dakota and surrounding states. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says North Dakota has two counties with confirmed cases among commercial turkey flocks. This includes 60-thousand turkeys in Dickey County and over 41-thousand in LaMoure County, which were both depopulated. Officials also recently identified avian influenza among commercial and backyard flocks in South Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota. The USDA is hopeful that the quick responses to detections will mitigate the virus’s impact on U.S. poultry production and trade.
