(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sioux Falls police say careful investigation delayed public details in the deadly assault at Cherry Creek Park. Sargeant Cole German explained Thursday that officials waited nearly three weeks to release information to protect evidence after 51-year-old Thomas Mark Fernandez was attacked on September 5th and later died from his injuries. Four suspects — Donovan Birdnecklacepigney, Tiana Herrera, Chaska Littlebear and Al Pigney — have been charged with murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, and robbery. Police say the attack wasn’t random and involved people who knew each other. German emphasized there was no risk to the public at the time, as the incident occurred in a secluded part of the park.
