FARGO — North Dakota’s top law enforcement official is warning parents and students that an investigation into explicit Snapchat images involving high school students is far from over.
Attorney General Drew Wrigley says the probe began in April, after a West Fargo student reported child sexual abuse material. Investigators later traced the case to Davies High School in Fargo, where the Bureau of Criminal Investigation has now seized more than 50 student phones.
Wrigley says some of the images were created using artificial intelligence, while others were real. He stressed that the victims are not under investigation, but some have already faced harassment so severe they had to change schools or seek counseling.
While no arrests have been made, Wrigley says charges are likely — and could include child exploitation and obscenity crimes under both state and federal law. He added that students who only received the images won’t face charges, but those who shared them could.
Calling the materials “illegal” and “not a prank,” Wrigley urged the public to avoid rumors as the investigation continues.
