(Washington, DC) — South Dakota leaders are weighing in on the government shutdown. Republican Senator Mike Rounds says it’s time to open government back up and “end the Schumer shutdown” before negotiating further, while state Democratic Representative Erik Muckey calls it a “subsidy shutdown” tied to Affordable Care Act funding. Health care is at the center of the standoff, and Rounds estimates about ten Democrats will need to cross the aisle for a deal. The last shutdown stretched from late 2018 into early 2019.
