(Bismarck, ND) — Bridge payments have been requested to support North Dakota soybean farmers amid massive trade losses this year. North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak published a letter this past Friday calling for the bridge program. She says the payments serve as a potential relief as China, the largest buyer of U.S. soybeans, has stopped purchasing the crop amid what the U.S. Department of Agriculture labeled as “illegal retaliatory tariffs.” Fedorchak is calling for the program specifically for soybeans and did not mention any other crops for her proposal. She also continues to claim that a trade deal with China is nearing.
