(Vermillion, SD) — A University of South Dakota professor has been reinstated after losing their job for comments related to the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Officials announced on Friday that Michael Hook will maintain his contract as an art professor at the university. Hook was meant to have his contract terminated after he reportedly made a post on his private Facebook page regarding the Kirk shooting. Hook filed a lawsuit against the school, claiming his First Amendment rights had been violated, as a judge granted a temporary restraining order that allowed him to return to teaching in the meantime. USD says that since Hook deleted the post and issued an apology, it would move on from the incident and withdraw its intent to terminate his contract.
