Governor Rhoden, SD Lawmakers Personally Funding Mt. Rushmore Lights

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Larry Rhoden and state lawmakers are willing to personally donate money to keep the lights on at Mount Rushmore. The Federal Government shutdown has forced the lights off at the attraction, and Governor Rhoden says he refuses “to let its light dim.” He announced over the weekend that his personal donation will fund the lights for the next seven days, as nearly a dozen other state lawmakers plan to follow suit if the government shutdown continues. The Mount Rushmore Society facilitated the transfer of funds through its partnership with the National Park Service.
