(Lennox, SD) — The City of Lennox wants to keep EMS services alive through a new taxing district. Lennox has been forced to cover costs using its sales tax, and now officials believe establishing a tax district, based on property evaluations, will create a more sustainable model. Alan Perry is the Director of EMS for Lennox Area Ambulance, and says that the department is “at the mercy of the city council in deciding whether or not they’re going to support the areas outside of Lennox.” Officials believe a new tax would ensure Perry’s department can maintain the staff needed to respond to an average of 500 calls annually. The city hopes an official vote for the new taxing district will take place in 2026.
