(Bismarck, ND) — Bismarck City Commissioners will again consider allowing backyard chickens in the city. Commissioner John Risch will appeal a denied zoning ordinance amendment that would allow chickens to be kept within city limits and to eliminate setback requirements for coops within residential properties. He says he is very optimistic about today’s meeting regarding the subject, but he cannot guarantee the zoning change will happen. Chickens in Bismarck have been a debate for years, with a similar proposal shut down in 2021. Today’s meeting will be held at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Room of the city office building.
