(Bismarck, ND) — Raising chickens within the Bismarck city limits remains banned under city law. The city council voted to uphold the Planning and Zoning Commission’s decision to prevent residents from keeping chickens within city limits. The decision also denied eliminating setback requirements for coops on residential properties for residents outside of town. A recent public survey on allowing chickens showed that 56-percent of responders were in favor of having chickens in town.
