(Billings, MT) — A coal sale in Montana is being rejected by the federal government. The Department of Interior recently denied the only bid for 167-million tons of coal in Big Horn County because it didn’t meet the requirements of the Mineral Leasing Act. The Billings Gazette reports the bid was made by Navajo Transitional Energy Company for just 186-thousand dollars, which would’ve been the biggest coal lease sale in more than ten years. NTEC operates Montana’s largest coal mine, the Spring Creek Mine.
