(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson is launching a new data center initiative. Johnson says that South Dakota is not a competitive location for data centers because the state’s tax on data centers is significantly higher than in other states. This led to him announcing the “Data Centers Done Right” initiative this week, which will convert the current permissive tax rebate on electronic equipment. Johnson argues that this will allow more data centers to be developed in South Dakota, which in turn will lower property taxes for residents and create more jobs. He now plans to work with state legislators and residents to develop additional details and legislative language needed to make the initiative a reality.
